San José (Sant Josep de sa Talaia) is a typical and peaceful Ibicenco village and the county seat of the municipality that bears its name.

The town centre is very small, as in all of Ibiza’s villages (as everyone knows houses are scattered across the countryside, not concentrated in towns). It is true, however, that San Jose has grown in the past years as a result of tourism, but it has fully retained the sleepy rural charm that has become its defining characteristic.

The church is its most important building and dates back to 1726. Forceful and whitewashed and, like other churches on the island, served as a defense site and peasant refuge against pirate attacks. The village has a good selection of nice bars and terrace cafés (Recó verd, La Movida, Es Galliner, Destino, Bernat Vinya) where you can have a nice and cold drink or even have a nice lunch or dinner.
